Why the Upturn in UFO Sightings? — 2 Comments

  1. Wonderful post Brenda and good question to think about!

A couple things come to mind. First, I am getting a little tired of the term “fake news,” but I do fear that part of the uptick in UFO reports is the trend of putting out false stories to get a reaction out of people. Whether it’s astronomy, religion, politics, or any other discipline, these stories do nothing but muddy the waters for people who are seeking sincere answers to their curiosities.

On the positive side, I hope that this is a sign that more people are getting out and looking at the stars. When I was a kid, I remember the first time I saw a “UFO” on the western horizon of our family farm as this bright object occasionally “wiggled” in the sky. (Yes, I only use the best of scientific descriptions! (: ) It wasn’t until later that I found out that my UFO was actually Venus interacting with the atmosphere. If more novices are looking up, that’s a good thing! I just hope they press on beyond their initial presumptions and experience the joy of coming to know the night sky!
