Each year members of the Vatican Observatory staff share their expertise by making educational presentations to more than 5,000 persons from 90 educational, religious, academic and cultural groups. These include scholarly discussions of research, as well as presentations to students of all ages and the general public. An example of the very prestigious events the observatory sponsors was the “Study Week On Astrobiology” with the Pontifical Academy of Sciences held in Vatican City in 2009 during the International Year of Astronomy. In May 2012 the Vatican Observatory co-sponsored an interactive educational exhibit in Pisa, “Stories from Another World”, that included astronomical photos, meteorite samples, historical instruments and books.

Of special significance is the Vatican Observatory Foundation's decades long support of the Vatican Observatory Summer School (VOSS) program and fellowships for graduate studies. In addition, Vatican Observatory scientists are often called upon by the media to explain recent findings or discuss the interplay of faith and science in the world and within their own world view.
