VATT Image of the Dumbbell Nebula. Image Credit: Vatican Observatory.
False color image of the planetary nebula NGC 6781. The bright star at the center of the nebula is the source of the gas and dust that make up the nebula. The reds and purples are ionized hydrogen; the blues and greens are primarily ionized oxygen.
Just another gratuitous pretty astropicture, in this case, the Horsehead Nebula as imaged at the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope.
